Meet the Founder
Hi! I’m Dechen, the owner and designer behind Yellow Paper Bird. I started Yellow Paper Bird in 2020 as a space to share my creations, almost like an online portfolio. When a few freelance projects came my way, I decided to grow it into a virtual gift shop featuring my designs. It has always been my dream to create a small shop filled with color, pattern, and whimsical finds.
I grew up in India, where color and pattern were everywhere. My father, a traditional Tibetan dance teacher and vocalist, performed with dancers dressed in brocade fabrics that shimmered with rich hues and intricate designs. I was also surrounded by women who made things with their hands. My mother taught me to cook when I was nine. My grandmother and her sister introduced me to backstrap weaving. And I often visited my aunt’s workshop, where she hand-wove rugs on a Panja Loom.
These experiences shaped how I see art and creativity. I love how art can move us, connect us to each other, and express what words sometimes cannot. Yellow Paper Bird is my way of capturing that magic and sharing it with you.
About Yellow Paper Bird
The name Yellow Paper Bird reflects three passions that shape who we are: color, creativity, and nature. Our logo features a hand-drawn Tibetan Blackbird paired with block-printed floral motifs, highlighting our commitment to artistry and the natural world.
Every design begins as a hand-drawn sketch. Some are transformed into lino cut blocks and block-printed onto the material, while others are digitally printed and heat-set onto the final products. Each design captures creativity and the quiet beauty tucked inside life’s smallest natural wonders.
Through our partnership with One Tree Planted, every purchase contributes directly to global reforestation efforts. It’s our way of helping ensure that the inspiration we draw from nature continues to thrive for generations to come.
